I ate lunch with the grips because the only member of camera who would really talk to me was the DIT guy who eventually realized they weren't willing to pay for a true DIT and it wasn't my fault. I was only making $300/day with kit rental.) The DP, and therefore the entire camera department, was completely disrespectful and talked shit about me for the entire shoot. (I guarantee the producers wouldn't have paid anything close to his rate. I haven't done it since because the camera crew had a true DIT working video village and they were all pissed that he hadn't been hired for it. It was my first data wrangling gig in town. I had just moved here and was trying to make connections. I am now gun shy of this because I got hired this way on a low budget feature and apparently no one told the LA DP that they didn't hire (and frankly didn't want to pay) a real DIT. Look at the new frame.io approach too.īeyond that it’s really just keeping all your drivers up to date and a wide selection of peripheral card readers (and spares) a UPS and charge points for phones etc on your desk.Īs you evolve upawards you’ll no doubt add a grading panel and scopes and broadcast monitor but buy those off the back of productions. Ideally you want it automated so as you transcode they just trickle up all day. O/dailies will automatically send to their platform but silverstack will do arri webgate and others. If you can take care of that as well people will love you. Lastly familiarise yourself with the various cloud based dailies platforms. Any clones of disks or folders you make you want them verified so no more copying using the finder. I also am a huge fan of parashoot - it makes you point at a copy of the media before you can reformat the camera cards.īeyond that get yourself a copy of carbon copy cloner. the developers a really nice guy too which is always a bonus. I also used o/dailies with it which gives you nice progress bars and a searchable shot list on your phone for free. It’s not unusual to get a phone call saying ‘hey we’re shooting plates for ep4 sc203 what lens did we use on the wide’ click type scene number and tell them :) One overlooked aspect is as it grabs all the metadata from the camera files and you sync the shot info you become more integrated into production. Worth noting here that there’s a lot of work going into ai slate reading to save that effort but a lot of times you can just grab the slate info from the audio files once you sync them:) To make life easy in avid you can also kick out an aaf which lets the editor load all the rushes really fast and a ale file which will let the editor import all the metadata - it doesn’t take long to just type in the slate info for each clip and it makes you look really good to production. As you get faster on set it’s trivial to start syncing rushes, adding a lut or quick grade with the dop, then transcoding for edit. I wouldn’t media wrangle or dit without it - plus you can grow into it. It just makes life easy, creates the folders, multiple copies, media hashing, production reports, cloud access and so on. ![]() The services communicate via RabbitMQ (included in the docker-compose.yml file).Ĭlone the sample: GitHub Repository (opens new window) # Scoped Filters NET) combined with the MassTransit (for JavaScript) NPM package (opens new window) to send requests from a node application and handle the subsequent response from a MassTransit Consumer (running in. There’s no ultimate right answer, many people you meet are going to die and you can’t change that, be they heroes or villains. It’s the fact that the good choice still results in bad outcomes at times that the game manages to be significantly more thoughtful on moral choice than most games we see today with similar scenarios. Otherwise, every good choice is the most moral one, not the one you know can benefit you. The only time the game stretches this a bit is one choice where you have to lie, though it’s for a merciful reason. The ends do not justify the means, and it is important one always act in an ethical manner. ![]() For those unaware, the Kantian school of ethics values an act above the intent or goals. Tormentum is a game entirely about Kantian ethics. As it turns out, that quote is the big hint on how to get the best ending. Starting a game with a quote from a famous philosopher is usually a good sign that a work is up its own bum, but that isn’t the case here. It’s worth mentioning that the game starts with a quote from influential morality philosopher Immanuel Kant. As the game goes on, more situations pop up that make you question past decisions, and you’re left to wonder if you’re actually making good choices. Turns out the rats capture and eat people. It seems very warm and cozy, until you enter the secret room in his basement to find a starving, naked man in a cage. There’s this rat in the castle you can choose to save or let die, but either way, you’ll eventually travel to his home at one point. “UH, DO MURDER OR NOT DO MURDER? DUH?” But once you reach the destroyed town area, things start to get interesting and the game makes you question your decisions. This is a tad strange at first, as the decisions presented in the castle are insultingly simple. As he travels, he comes across various situations where someone’s life or well being relies on his decisions, and that is where the game’s entire point lies. Your main character, name unknown, is imprisoned in a very fleshy castle run by dark beings, and he needs to escape and figure out just who he is and why he ended up there. It’s never revealed what this setting actually is until the end of the game, though it’s fairly obvious from just a glance. Tormentum takes this fleshy aesthetic and runs with it the whole game. The common connection is how they tend to turn flesh and the human body into an emotionally resonant mockery of itself. I doubt I need Giger’s contribution to the world of sci-fi, but Beksiński has remained a more cult figure, finding a lot of fans in some areas of the metal genre (including Christian black metal band Antestor, surprisingly). Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński, two artists famous for their vile, skin-crawling imagery. Their art is based heavily on the works of H.R. However, there is genuine passion in it outside the efforts of the art team, though they absolutely steal the show. It also crafts a visually stunning, grotesque world that has very little interaction to find within it. It’s mechanically simplistic and definitely won’t test your brain, with only the most basic of brain teasers on hand (there are multiple connect the pipe puzzles, for example). Tormentum: Dark Sorrow has elements of that sub-genre in it. For example, the story of Black Rainbow reads off like a a very long Mad Libs session. The other major aspect of these games is the focus on visual flair over narrative, creating downright beautiful, almost painting like areas with simplistic stories. ![]() ![]() ![]() There’s some fun to be had in that set up, but many of these games tend to go on longer than they should, and those simple mechanics become padding very quickly. It’s the casual off-shoot of the larger genre, focusing on minigames over environmental logic puzzles, having less brain bending and more simple tasks you can lose yourself in a bit. If you’ve been playing point and click adventure games long enough, you may have heard of the hidden object genre at some point. ![]() Wireless tethering using Capture One 22 15.3.0 with a Sony camera Capture One Pro 22 is available as a perpetual license or on subscription.Ī perpetual license is $299 upgrades from select previous generations start at $159 and subscriptions start at $20 per month.įor a complete list of all Capture One products and licensing options visit the Capture One Store.
